Secret Santa Is The Worst: How Can We Make the Best of It?

Let’s Make the Best of Secret Santa

Often with good intentions of saving money or having fun, Secret Santa can be the worst! Add an office setting, people you don’t know well, budgets, it can be such an unnecessary stressor.

How can we do it right?

Start with not buying anything wasteful. Novelty gifts are a thing of the past. Here are 4 ways to improve your Secret Santa experience!

  1. Give the Gift of Culture

What about a pass to a local museum? A walking map of local art galleries and a gift card to grab a coffee and explore? Two tickets to a local show? Or check out local experiences; everything from making macaroons to brewer for the day.

There’s an added bonus of supporting local!

  2. Capture the Moment

You can buy a mini photography session with a local photographer. It could be holiday themed, for the family, headshots etc.

  3. The Essentials

Think about what the person uses daily and upgrade. For example, nice soaps, good wine or some delicious coffee. You know it will get used and appreciated!

  4. Relaxation

Something everyone could use at the moment! It could be a thoughtful gift basket of do-it-yourself spa day (maybe with a child care gift card).

How about gift cards for experiences like yoga, float, or meditations. Or even a curated relaxing song list on Spotify with recommendations for a ‘recovery’ day.

For example, going for a local walk in nature (try Alltrails app) or finding a perfect spot to enjoy the sunrise and a coffee. Maybe paired with a skill developing book like A Cup of Mindfulness.
